Have you made it to the 1st page of Google?

The one thing every website needs is 'Traffic' and the cheapest and best source of web traffic is through search engines like Google.

A few years ago it was fairly easy to rank well in the search engines, however that is no longer the case. There is many more website to compete against these days and the number of website will only increase in years to come. Also, Google and other search engines are constantly making changes to their "Search Algorithm', so SEO techniques that worked well in the past, no longer do.

So what exactly is Google?

Google is a search engine its main duty is to sort through all of the websites online and determine based on the keyword you have searched, which site would be most relevant for you to look at.

It is very important that Google does not put irrelevant sites on the 1st page of Google because then searchers like you or I will would find ourselves changing to another search engine like Yahoo or Bing.

How does Google determine what sites are listed it's 1st page?

Google has its own algorithm for working out which site is most relevant to a keyword searched. No-one knows the exact Algorithm, however SEO specialists like ourselves have worked out what works and what doesn't through trial and error.

Google also filter out results from websites they think are trying to manipulate them, and they do penalize websites that either accidently or purposely try to manipulate search engines.

If your site is penalized you may not appear in search engines at all and it could be a long road to try and get back onto search let alone make it to the 1st page of Google.

Which Search Engines are the most commonly used?

According to recent data, Google is the most commonly used search engine, generating more than 4 times the searches of Yahoo, and 7 times the searches on Bing.

Google 72%
Yahoo 15%
Bing 10%
Other 3%

Therefore you can see why it is so important to be on the 1st page of Google, before you even worry about the other sites.

If I make it to the 1st page of Google will I also be on the 1st page of other search engines?

The answer to this is yes and no. Generally if you are listed on the 1st page of Google you will also be listed on the 1st page of other sites, however this is not always the case, because each search engine is different. Based on the figures above you are best to focus your attention on getting on the 1st page of the most used search engine which is Google, hence the reason we focus on getting your site on the 1st Page of Google.
